THE SWIMMING POOL IN MERICHLERI RESTORED BY A PROJECT
The swimming pool in Merichleri is going to be restored according to the project No BGLD-1.007-0022 Construction and development of sports and entertainment complex Solentsi, Merichleri, first stage, implemented under the program Local development, poverty reduction and improved inclusion of vulnerable groups, financed by the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area 2014-2021. At a press conference today on the occasion of the starting repair works in the frame of the project, the mayor of Dimitrovgrad municipality, Mr. Ivo Dimov, shared that this is one of a long- established project, with which the municipality plans to restore the pool in Merichleri and allocates its own funds for its repair. The entire amount for the first stage is BGN 862,335.18, with over BGN 700,000 allocated funds. Subsequently, we will proceed to the second stage, in which the facility will be brought to use by the citizens, emphasized the mayor. The press conference was also attended by the project manager, Eng. Krasimira Boneva, the chief architect of the municipality, Mrs. Elisaveta Georgieva, the deputy mayor, Mr. Yasho Minkov, as well as the project team.
Eng. Krasimira Boneva introduced the planned activities of the project. "The total value of the project is: 160,211.87 euros or 313,195.27 BGN, financed through combined support: EUR 143,750.44 or BGN 281,147.10 from the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area and national co-financing and EUR 16,461.43 or BGN 32,195.27 from the budget of Dimitrovgrad municipality. The implementation of the project is part of the implementation of the strategic plan of the municipality of Dimitrovgrad for utilizing the natural, cultural, touristic, social, economic and geographical potential of the target territory and the available technical infrastructure, with the aim of creating a framework for overcoming socio-economic challenges and achieving of economic growth. The main goal of the project is, through investments in innovative approaches and development of local employment, to help promote social inclusion and economic activity, to achieve progress in the socio-economic development of the municipality. In the medium term, the project aims to build and develop a sport and entertainment complex, which will be upgraded to a park for sports and recreation. The implementation of the project activities will lead to the diversification of employment opportunities through the development of tourism and related services in the territory of Merichleri and the municipality of Dimitrovgrad as a whole. The project envisages restoring the functionality of a mineral pool in the town of Merichleri. The activity covers the construction and restoration works on an already existing object - a swimming pool of Olympic dimensions, supplied with water from the Solentsi mineral spring.
