The total value of project No BG16FFPR003-2.006-0099-C02 "Sustainable growth supporting human resource development, improved quality of public services for citizens, and development of tourism potential based on local resources" exceeds €21.8 million. The project is funded under the "Development of Regions" Programme 2021–2027, specifically procedure BG16FFPR003-2.006: "Support for integrated urban development in 40 urban municipalities." Details were announced by the Mayor of Dimitrovgrad Municipality, Mr Ivo Dimov, during a press conference today, where he presented the specific investments to be implemented within the project activities. Also participating in the press conference were Deputy Mayor, Mr Yasho Minkov, Mrs Klavdiya Toncheva, Head of the Investment Activities, Environment, and Water Department, and the manager of the Municipal Communal Enterprise. The project is developed in partnership with the Municipality of Haskovo, the Municipality of Parvomay, Dimitar Matevski Primary School (Merichleri), Dr. Ivan Bogorov Foreign Language High School (Dimitrovgrad), Pencho Slaveykov Primary School (Dimitrovgrad), Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov Vocational High School (Dimitrovgrad), the local foundation ‘Podari Usmivka’, and the city hospital.

"This is one of the large-scale projects that will transform the face of Dimitrovgrad and the settlements. We are talking about investments in road infrastructure, education, healthcare, social services, cultural heritage, and green urban environment. These are investments that directly impact people's quality of life," stated Mr Dimov.

The Programme covers activities funded within the territory of the Dimitrovgrad Municipality. One of the most significant investments concerns road infrastructure - the repair and renovation of the road connecting Merichleri, Dimitrovgrad (Mariyno district), Bryast village, Zdravets village, and Stransko village. The total length of the road is 14.1 km, and the investment value amounts to €7,167,553. The project also includes significant investments in the green infrastructure, totaling €4,239,664. Renovation and reconstruction work has begun today. The transformation of the urban environment is visible for every citizen. Investments totaling €1,302,845 have also been allocated for cultural heritage and tourism, covering three significant sites: the village of Krepost, the development of the historical complex near the village of Stalevo, and the development of the tourist site of national importance – the historical complex the Sanctuary of the Nymphs and Aphrodite, near the village of Kasnakovo.

There are plans for modernization of municipal educational infrastructure at a cost of €3,249,936, including the construction of a sports hall in Merichleri Primary School; major renovations and energy efficiency measures for the kindergarten in the Iztok district; as well as the renovation and modernization of the educational facilities at the Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov Vocational High School. "When we invest in schools and kindergartens, we are investing in our children and in the future of Dimitrovgrad," Dimov emphasized at the press-conference.

Regarding healthcare infrastructure, the project includes an investment of €1,195,569 in the city hospital, aimed at improving healthcare services and creating a modern hospital environment. Planned activities include the construction of a photovoltaic power plant for self-consumption, as well as the installation of a renewable energy system, as well as renovation of the courtyard area. The procurement of equipment for medical services, building upon the previously implemented telemedicine development, is currently under evaluation.

In the social sector, investments totaling €2,370,347 are planned for the development of social infrastructure. The allocated funds cover the construction of a residential care center for non-disabled elderly individuals (a retirement home) in Dimitrovgrad and the construction of a community center for early childhood development. Both initiatives are currently under evaluation. This is a vital part of the overall policy to improve the quality of life in the municipality, as was noted at the press-conference.

"When we speak of over €21.8 million, we are not merely talking about a financial framework. We are talking about specific facilities and services. It is important that these investments are implemented, delivering tangible results for the citizens of Dimitrovgrad and the small settlements," stated the mayor in conclusion.

Following the press conference, together with representatives of the contractors, the officials visited the site to present the upcoming activities and the plan for renovation of the area. The results after the project activities will make the city environment better for all the residents of Dimitrovgrad.
