DIMITROVGRAD AGAIN IS THE CAPITAL OF POETRY
Dimitrovgrad will be again the capital of poetry in Bulgaria. At the end of April, the traditional poetry holidays for the city, Penyo Penev Poetry Days, will begin.
The program starts on April 25 with the performance "We, Radichkovi" at the local drama theater. That evening, a discussion with Prof. Plamen Doynov on the topic "Forbidden Poets in the Time of Socialism" will take place in the House-Museum Penyo Penev.
On April 26, Dimitrovgrad will host a National Literary Roundtable on "Who's Afraid of Penyo Penev?" with the participation of researchers of Bulgarian literature of the 20th century. Lecturers from all universities in the country that teach literature, as well as experts related to the theme, are invited to the forum.
Traditionally, on April 27, 10:30 am, the citizens pay tribute to the poet in the park of the same name by offering wreaths and flowers.
On Sunday, April 28, 7:00 p.m., a classical music concert will take place in the theater, organized under the project Lost Music. The works will be presented by an international orchestra composed of musicians from Forli (Italy), Alicante (Spain) and Brass Band Dimitrovgrad. Conductor is Stefano Nani (Italy).
The performance "The Thinking Reeds" based on the poetry of Miryana Basheva, presented by Theatrical Workshop ‘Sfumato’, will be available to the audience on April 29 at the drama theater.
The culmination of the celebrations is on May 7, when the national literary award will be presented to this year's laureate. The official ceremony of awarding ‘2024 will be in the summer garden of the City Library.
Accompanying exhibitions will be available during the poetry festival: "Reading through Socialism", presented with the support of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in the summer garden of the Historical Museum, and another exhibition with books and articles on the topic "Penyo Penev in the memories of his contemporaries", organized by the City Library.
