1.jpg

The town art gallery dates back to an art collection in 1962. It is an art museum that collects and popularises the works of professional Bulgarian artists from the mid-20th century to the present day.

Currently, the gallery boasts an extensive collection of 2,300 works, grouped into the following categories: paintings,  graphics, sculpture, conceptual art, photography, theatre posters, and foreign art. Besides the works of distinguished artists, its collection also includes works by artists whose creative path has crossed Dimitrovgrad and the region. The gallery is located on one of the town’s central boulevards and has two exhibition halls with a total area of 55 m2.

Some of the most valuable gallery pieces include:

  • A fascinating collection of more than 1,200 theatre posters by Bulgarian and foreign artists;
  • Paintings of participants in the Plein-Air;
  • Works of participants in the Its Own Context Symposium and Names of the 1990s Programme;
  • The first Bulgarian conceptual artwork entered into a municipal gallery back in 1988, Index-box by Nedko Solakov;
  • A poster with an autograph of the world-famous Bulgarian artist Christo Javacheff  (Christo).

The town gallery attracts visual art enthusiasts. Annually, it holds between 10 and 12 exhibitions. The gallery alternates exhibitions of pieces from its collection and those of guest art museums with exhibitions of contemporary artists, presented individually or collectively. It also hosts book presentations and meetings with its authors, film shows, concerts, children’s workshops, etc.
