DEPUTY MINISTER OF REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT, MS. DELYANA IVANOVA, AT A MEETING IN DIMITROVGRAD

DEPUTY MINISTER OF REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT, MS. DELYANA…

Ms. Delyana Ivanova, the new Governor of Haskovo District Ms. Katya Paneva, the Mayor of Dimitrovgrad Mr. Ivo Dimov, and the chairperson of the town council Ms. Gergana Krasteva held an almost two-hour meeting to discuss the financial state of the local company ‘Water and Sewerage.

The company cannot cover its electricity bills, which for November and December are a total of BGN 707,000. The situation with its condition is critical and the options for leaving it are few, as the participants in the meeting announced at a press conference in front of media.

The water company is in a technical and physical collapse.

Without financial help from the state government or from the the municipal budjet, the company cannot cope with its depts. Dimitrovgrad water company is not a consolidated part of Haskovo water holding, so in this case the state can not help, Deputy Minister cleared. She clarified also that the electricity supplier will not cut off the power supply by informal agreement. Consolidation with the Haskovo Water Holding and Association is the only alternative for decision, she confirmed.

The municipal council is currently against such kind of cooperation. In Dimitrovgrad the current price of drinking water for households is BGN 1.86 per cubic meter. If the local company joins the Haskovo water association, the jump will be BGN 3.52 per cubic meter.

If the municipal council agrees the consolidation of Dimitrovgrad and Haskovo water companies, then the Holding will be able to allocate funds for payment of electricity bills. Now, according to the Deputy Minister, the state has no other mechanism for help. Thus, the Holding recently allocated nearly BGN 2 million to Vik - Haskovo to pay its overdue electricity bills.

At the moment, the employees of Dimitrovgrad Water Company receive their salaries, but at the expense of its obligations for electricity.

The regional governor, Katya Paneva, shared that she hopes in coming days the municipal council to make a reasonable decision
