EPIPHANY IN DIMITROVGRAD ‘2024
The 24-year-old sportsman Yanislav Georgiev saved the Christ's Cross on today's great Orthodox Christian holiday Epiphany in Dimitrovgrad. The athlete wished himself health and good luck during the year.
The mayor of the municipality, Mr Ivo Dimov, as usual, presented him and the other participants with wine, ritual bread, and a cash prize. A record number of participants - 36, threw themselves into the cold waters of Maritsa, among them a twenty-four-year-old foreigner. The young people performed the traditional ritual dance for health in the icy waters of the river.
The water sanctuary on the banks of the Maritsa River was served by Vicar of the Bishop Georgi Todev. The ritual was followed by hundreds of residents and guests of Dimitrovgrad, who stood on the riverbank, warming themselves with tea and red wine provided by the organizers.
