THE BRIGADIER FIRE WAS SYMBOLICALLY LIT ON THE OCCASION OF THE 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BRIGADIER MOVEMENT
This evening, despite the rain, in the historical building where in 1947-1950 the Headquarters of the National Youth Construction Brigade "Young Guard" wac located, the brigade fire was officialy lit and the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the organized youth brigade movement in Bulgaria was celebrated.
Guests of the event were the mayor of Dimitrovgrad Municipality Mr Ivo Dimov, the Director of the Historical Museum Ms Antoaneta Stancheva, the Director of the City Library Dr Valentina Terzieva, the businessman Mr Mityu Valchev, and many guests and citizens.
In her opening remarks, Ganka Georgieva emphasized the scale of the movement, when thousands of young people from all over the country united to build the infrastructure of Bulgaria - time when labor became a supreme value, a symbol of honor and dignity.
The mayor of the municipality of Dimitrovgrad, Mr Ivo Dimov, reminded how important it is to preserve historical memory and keep alive the spark of youthful enthusiasm and social responsibility. Another anniversary - the 20th anniversary of the founding of the National Brigade Headquarters pensioner club was also marked.
In the period 1946 - 1950, thousands of young people participated in the construction of some of the largest sites in Bulgaria, including Dimitrovgrad. Some of them took over the machines of the new factories, others continued to build houses, factories, and roads. In Dimitrovgrad, they were involved in the construction of the "P. Penev" park, in the reconstruction of the Chemical Plant, the reconstruction of "G. Dimitrov" Blvd., and many others. The campfire again gathered veterans and the younger generation for anniversary celebrations in different parts of the country.
On December 27, 1987, the Museum of the Headquarters of the National Youth Construction Brigade "Young Guard" was opened and the Dimitrovgrad Historical Museum assisted in the formation of the museum collection.
