THE MAYOR OF DIMITROVGRAD, WHO IS DEPUTY CHAIRMAN OF THE NAMRB, MR IVO DIMOV, OPENED THE NATIONAL MEETING OF MUNICIPAL FINANCIAL EXPERTS
Over 400 municipal financial-and-tax experts, accountants, internal auditors, financial controllers, deputy mayors, and local government representatives from more than 130 municipalities gathered in Ravda resort for the 28th National Meeting of Municipal Financial Experts – the longest-standing forum of the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria (NAMRB). The official opening was made by the Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of the NAMRB, Mr Ivo Dimov, who is also the Mayor of the Municipality of Dimitrovgrad. He expressed his gratitude to the municipal financial experts for their key role in the management of the local authorities. In his welcome address, he noted that over the past 30 years, the NAMRB and the municipal expert community have consistently worked to strengthen the financial stability and autonomy of Bulgarian municipalities. In his speech, he focused over the successful municipal policy and the implemented projects. It is undisputable that the professionalism of the financial teams, who daily seek solutions in the conditions of limited resources and growing challenges, stands behind their everyday work. Dimov drew attention to the complicated budget situation this year. However, he expressed confidence that the professional community will be able to formulate the necessary solutions and proposals on the key issues facing local finances.
The ceremonial part was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the NAMRB. Other greeting addresses were delivered by the first Executive Director of the Association, Ms Ginka Chavdarova, the current Executive Director, Mr Silviya Georgieva, and Ms Daniela Ushatova, Head of the Local Policies and Finances Team at the NAMRB.
Within the framework of the meeting (3 - 5 May, 2026), NAMRB contributed with expertise, professionalism and active engagement to the development of local self-government and the financial sustainability of Bulgarian municipalities and called for efforts for financial decentralization as the main priorities of local authorities.
