MAYOR IVO DIMOV READS STORIES TO CHILDREN, ENCOURAGING THEIR READING SKILLS
The Mayor of Dimitrovgrad Municipality Mr Ivo Dimov reads stories to children from Prikazka Kindergarten as an initiative of the City Library today. In this way, he supports the campaign to promote reading among children, part of the national "Reading Marathon" campaign.
Ivo Dimov chose to read Bulgarian folk tales and Elin Pelin’s stories and discusses with the kids the moral of these literary works. He gave children a piece of advice to read books and remember the lessons that books give their readers. Mr Dimov supports the campaign every year. The initiative is traditionally held in April during the Week of the International Children's Book Day. In the framework of the campaign, popular Bulgarian personalities, representatives of the local government, writers, cultural workers, artists, public figures, etc encourage children and teenagers to read books.
The manager of the City Library – Dimitrovgrad, Mrs Valentina Terzieva, introduced the renovation of the Children’s Department. ‘We have a corner dedicated to early children’s development (0-5 year-old) and a lot of books for that age, based on the Montessori methodology. We believe that reading books is an important activity which guarantees intelligent readers in future time. Our experience is a result from the Finnish recommendations.’
