DIMITROVGRAD CELEBRATES THE NATIONAL HOLIDAY
Many residents of Dimitrovgrad flocked to Bulgaria central square to celebrate the National Day. Dimitrovgrad celebrated 145 years of Free Bulgaria with military honors, flag groups from the schools and a solemn ceremony of raising the national flag.
"March 3rd is a day when we remember why we should be proud to be Bulgarians. Today we should forget the differences between us and open our hearts to love for our country. Let's just feel united, let's be proud to be Bulgarians, and let's not forget our roots!" the mayor of the municipality, Mr Ivo Dimov, said in his welcoming speech to the fellow citizens.
The chairman of the Dimitrovgrad Municipal Council, Mrs Gergana Krasteva, addressed the citizens with strong and heartfelt words.
The holiday began with a solemn acceptance of the formation by the chief of staff of military formation 52740-Haskovo Major Ivan Bonev, marches performed by the Brass Band Dimitrovgrad with conductor Mitya Yordanov and a ceremony of raising the national flag. An exciting performance of the poem "I am a Bulgarian" was performed by Ivaylo Georgiev, a first-grader from Aleko Konstantinov Elementary School. After that, the crowd marched along the central city avenue to the memorial plaque in Freedom Park, where officials and citizens bowed to the heroically fallen by laying wreaths and flowers. Many residents and guests of Dimitrovgrad attended the celebration to honor the holiday and bow their heads to the heroes who died for the Freedom of the Fatherland. Among the officials were Mrs Gergana Krasteva, a chairperson of the Town Council, the deputy mayor Mr Yasho Minkov, municipal councilors; members of the cultural institutions, members of the public, politicians and citizens. Wreaths and flowers were presented by the officials and dozens of patriotic Bulgarians.
Due to the bad weather conditions and the rain, the concert on Poetry Square with the participation of the graduates of the Municipal Enterprise "Children and Youth Center" was canceled for March 6, 2023 (Monday), 16:00 in front of the building of Children and Youth Center.
