DIMITROVGRAD HONORED ITS MOST PROMINENT TEACHERS, CULTURAL WORKERS AND STUDENTS ON THE 24th OF MAY HOLIDAY
At a solemn ceremony on the occasion of May 24th, Dimitrovgrad honored its most prominent teachers, cultural workers and students. Hundreds of citizens gathered in the central square of the city for the celebration of the holiday. On this day, the Dimitrovgrad Municipality traditionally honors the highest awards in the field of education and culture. They are given for contribution to the development, affirmation and enrichment of the spiritual life of the municipality. The mayor of the municipality and the chairperson of the municipal council presented plaques, diplomas and cash prizes to the nominated teachers and cultural workers.
Welcoming speeches on the occasion of the holiday were delivered by the mayor of the municipality, Mr Ivo Dimov, and the chairperson of the Municipal Council, Mrs Gergana Krasteva.
“Keep the enthusiasm, inspiration and courage which you build the foundations of Bulgarian spirit with! Happy National Day of Knowledge!”, in his speech Mr Dimov, mayor of Dimitrovgrad municipality.
The Chairperson of the Town Council, Mrs Krasteva, also extended her congratulations to all people on the square on the occasion of the holiday.
“Today we celebrate the light, the light of knowledge, of Bulgarian writing and spirituality!”, she said in her address.
The winners of the prestigious honorary awards “Teacher of the Year” in the field of education are:
Mrs Bistra Zhekova - "Teacher of the Year" for 2025 for "Comprehensive contribution to the development of education and the prestige of the Municipality with a long-lasting character".
Mrs Katya Chalakova - "Teacher of the Year" for 2025 in the field of "Natural and Mathematical Sciences".
Mrs Plamena Lyubenova - "Teacher of the Year" for 2025 in the field of "Preschool and School Education".
Mr Todor Todorov - "Teacher of the Year" for 2025 in the field of "Humanitarian Education".
Mr Aleksandar Dafinov - "Teacher of the Year" for 2025 in the field of "Physical Education and Sports".
Mr Georgi Georgiev - "Teacher of the Year" for 2025 in the field of "Vocational Education".
This year, the Municipality of Dimitrovgrad honored one of its most active cultural figures – in the field of fine arts.
"Cultural Figure" for 2025 was awarded to the sculptor Mr Grozdan Grozev.
The Municipality of Dimitrovgrad also honored the most outstanding and distinguished graders, who earned the respect of their teachers and classmates. They received certificates from the mayor of the municipality for their educational successes, raising the prestige of the school and the Municipality of Dimitrovgrad. The names of these students are Aleksandrina Kuzeva and Veselin Dimov.
The celebration of the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, the Bulgarian alphabet, education and culture and Slavic literature began with a procession of schools, led by the Brass Band Dimitrovgrad and children from the Galaxico Dance Center, children with wreaths from the Lyuben Karavelov Secondary School, and a choir from the Pencho Slaveykov Primary School. The festive procession passed along the central pedestrian alley and headed to the stage on Bulgaria Square. With a spectacular composition, the children from Galaxico Center, led by their trainer Mr Tihomir Mitev, lifted the spirits of those present with their performances of eternal choreographies and songs. The official ceremony began with the anthem of the holiday in a joint performance by the "Slaveykovtsi" choir and the Brass Orchestra Dimitrovgrad with conductor Mr Dimitar Mitev.
First-graders Daniel Mihaylov and Victoria Krumova greeted the gathered citizens with a recital of the poems "Letters" by Simeonka Tihova and "The Teacher" by Nikolay Dimov.
Education in Dimitrovgrad Municipality
In Dimitrovgrad Municipality there are eight primary schools, one unified and one secondary school, two specialized and one vocational high schools, in which nearly 4200 students from 1st to 12th grade are educated.
In Dimitrovgrad Municipality there are 7 kindergartens, located in 18 cozy buildings. They raise, educate and train nearly 1200 children up to 7 years old.
